Not only am I an author but I am also a personal trainer, and as such have taken my 200 hours of Yoga Training. At my last training we had to read the book “Practicing the Power of Now” by Eckhart Tolle. I opted to listen to it on Audible as I enjoy listening to books while I walk my dogs.
The content of the book was interesting. The concept behind the book is to live in the now – which many of us don’t. I try to do so but catch myself thinking about ‘what next?’ Or dwelling on what has already happened. By worrying about what is to come or what has already transpired we are never truly living and loving our lives.
It is an everyday struggle for me, and having depression/anxiety doesn’t really help that matter. In my soon to be released book “Embracing Me” I share about how my mind dwells on what has happened and tells me how horrible I am. Keeping me in a dark place.
Listening to Practicing the Power of Now reminded me of the importance of living in the now. Eckhart Tolle says that it is easier to focus on your breathing first. Which is something that my therapist (and my child’s therapist) has said. Focus on your deep breaths and it has a calming effect.
There are lots of little nuggets of gold in this book about staying present. We cannot change the past and we cannot control the future. The only thing we have is the right now in this moment. So live life in this moment. I’m not saying it is easy but it makes sense to try.
If you have the opportunity to read this book, I would suggest you do. As I wrote earlier, I listened to it on audible. I would not recommend listening to it on audible. Unfortunately, as good as the content of the book is the recording is very dry and monotone. I struggled to stay focused on what was being said.
However, you decide to get the content into your hands I think everyone should. This world moves too fast and we often miss the small wonderful moments.
